Congress's ultra-processed food crackdown

A Senate committee advanced the bipartisan Childhood Diabetes Reduction Act, which would require warning labels on ultra-processed foods and restrict junk-food advertising aimed at children. Committee Chair Bill Cassidy is separately drafting a national uniform food-regulation standard. The fight is whether the bill clears the full Senate and whether Cassidy's broader standard materializes, at a moment when the FDA itself has declined to define or restrict ultra-processed foods.
