Phosphorus on a vegan diet

Phosphorus is abundant in legumes, nuts, grains and vegetables, and most people already eat more of it than the RDA calls for. The real story is absorption: plant phosphorus is less efficiently absorbed than the kind in meat and dairy.

The short version

That guidance is specific to advanced kidney disease and belongs with a treating clinician, not general advice. But it underlines the same point running through this page: plant-sourced phosphorus is the gentler version of a mineral most people already get plenty of.

Is plant-based phosphorus absorbed as well as phosphorus from meat or dairy?

No, and that is not necessarily a downside.
