A federal judge in Delaware dismissed Onego Bio's lawsuit against The EVERY Co on October 9, ending a patent fight between the two precision-fermentation egg-protein makers that began in September 2025 [29][33]. The court found it had no jurisdiction to declare that Onego does not infringe, and made no finding on whether EVERY's ovalbumin patent is valid, so EVERY could still assert it later [29]. A parallel Wisconsin suit was thrown out in May [29]. The EVERY Co's protein is already in products sold at Walmart, Target and Amazon, Green Queen reports [33].

“The evidence before me doesn’t show that EVERY did anything to assert its rights against Onego. On the contrary, the facts make clear that Onego played the instigator.”
Joshua D. Wolson, US district judge, Delaware · [29]
“We welcome the decision that there is no infringement claim against Onego, no challenge to our freedom to operate, and no litigation between us anymore.”
Maija Itkonen, cofounder and CEO, Onego Bio · [29]

Abu Dhabi sets rules for public tastings of cultivated meat before UAE approval

Abu Dhabi sets rules for public tastings of cultivated meat before UAE approval

Abu Dhabi's government has created a framework that lets companies hold public tastings and sensory studies of novel foods such as cultivated meat and precision-fermented proteins before they win full UAE approval for sale, Green Queen reports [32]. The Abu Dhabi Quality and Conformity Council wrote it with ADAFSA and the Abu Dhabi Investment Office, and ADAFSA reviews each trial application [32]. Tastings are not sales: full approval is still required before anything is sold [32].

Algiecel has opened an industrial-scale plant inside Novonesis's Kalundborg site in Denmark, making microalgae-based fish-oil alternatives for pet food and cosmetics [34]. It grows the algae on CO2 captured from an on-site biogas plant, and the build lifts its capacity nearly fivefold over the pilot [34]. Green Queen ties tight fish-oil supply to El Niño and overfishing, the gap fish-free omega-3 makers are aiming at [34].

“We’ve run our pilot reactor for more than 10,000 operational hours, and the biology performs as we designed it to.”
Susanne Palsten Buchardt, CEO, Algiecel · [34]
By the numbers
  • 5,500 litresof total bioreactor volume, 3,240 of it growing microalgae, against 700 litres in the pilot system [34]
  • 12 tonnesof microalgal biomass a year, expected starting next year [34]
  • 31%drop in fish-oil supply across leading producer regions by early June, versus 12 months earlier [34]
  • 60 million kroner ($9M)raised by Algiecel in 2024 [34]

  • A proteomics review of cultivated meat reports up to 45% variability in protein-group identifications between sample-preparation protocols, which it names a key obstacle to cross-laboratory comparability and regulatory acceptance [17].

Villages in Papua New Guinea keep a custom of closing parts of their reefs to fishing for a time, like fallow farmland, and a global analysis of nearly 1,700 reefs flagged the site as a bright spot [40]. A University of Sydney team has now reviewed more than 70 such success stories, from those reefs to West African chimpanzees, Canada's grizzly bears and Tasmania's shy albatross, and found the same three ingredients: local knowledge valued alongside science, communities in the decision seat, and management fitted to the place [11][40]. Josh Cinner, who has worked with these coastal communities for more than 25 years, calls the reef "a story of hope and connection" [40].
