Bryan Guy Adams was born on November 5, 1959, in Kingston, Ontario, and went on to become one of Canada's biggest rock exports, known for hits like "Summer of '69" and "(Everything I Do) I Do It for You." He gave up meat in the late 1980s, around age 28, and later cut out all animal products entirely, a switch he has credited with keeping him healthy through decades of touring. He has said the shift came naturally to him, tracing it back to growing up with dogs he considered family. Since then he has used his platform for animal rights work, from campaigning for a Southern Ocean whale sanctuary in the 1990s to speaking out against fur, and he has kept his public case for veganism short and unpreachy.

Why it still matters

A mainstream rock star keeping the animal-rights argument down to one plain sentence, for decades, does more to normalize the choice than any campaign built to sound convincing.
